The hustle and grind is ever-flowing with musician and author Cliff Beach

You’ll certainly find the funk in Cliff Beach with his wickedly charming persona that goes hand in hand with the original music that will truly hit your soul. Most any weekend you can catch him performing anywhere in his hometown of Los Angeles as he plays multiple shows across the city.

From a young age, Beach learned how to play music. His mother instilled in him core values such as “the power of a strong work ethic and discipline”. Admittedly this is not something he always wanted to do but he believes practicing these values pay off. “In the end hard work pays off in the dividends of understanding grit, determination and the concept of delayed gratification,” says the singer-songwriter. We were curious to find out more.

What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?

As Elton John said, ” If you don’t get it out of you, you’ll go crazy.” I don’t think I could do anything else, nor would I want to. When you are lucky enough to find something you love, that brings others so much joy, you should do it as much as humanly possible, regardless of money, because you do yourself and the world a disservice if you deny us what only you can do.

What’s one reason you are passionate about music?

It’s limitless possibilities. If you have a growth mindset music will expand your universe. I started as a singer, then keyboardist, then songwriter, then producer, arranger, label owner, publisher, podcaster, radio dj, house band leader on tv and so on and so forth. And it keeps evolving everyday. That keeps me passionate.

Who in your life and your music has influenced you the most?

In my life my mom has influenced me the most just from her support and unconditional love. In music my music teachers really planted the seeds of greatness within me and helped to cultivate them and grow, but I learn by watching the greats from Ella Fitzgerald to Prince and MJ, to Silk Sonic and beyond. I am inspired to be inspired. And we can’t forget Sly, Stevie, Marvin, Aretha, Curtis… How much time and space have you got?

Do you have a favorite moment so far in your career?

When I did the Berklee Singer showcase that was fun early in my career after 7 tries, but I have to say winning the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and becoming house band leader for Josh Gates Tonight on Discovery Channel are pretty up there too.

What were you doing before music?

I wanted to be a chef and then a doctor, but music has always been a part of my life. My mom sang to me in the womb. Like MJ sang, it’s Music & Me…

Tell us the name of the project you are currently promoting? What inspired this project?

I am currently promoting my book “Side Hustle & Flow” out on Black Spring Press Group/Eyewear Publishing. I can’t wait for the audiobook to drop in Jan. A long process, but a bucket list item , and a labor of love. I appreciate how books can give us some much useful knowledge and I am blessed to be a blessing to help the next generation of not only artists but business people, those who want to effect change and live more passionate, fulfilling lives.

In your latest music, is there a specific lyric on this track that speaks to you most?

On my latest EP Son of a Beach, on the song “The Truth” featuring Mestizo Beat , there is a lyrics that says “Don’t tell me, cause I already know, the truth will come to the light…”. Believe me, it ALWAYS does!

Is there a hobby or business you do outside of music that you would like to share with us?

I love to read. Leaders are Readers. As Reading Rainbow taught us “take a look, it’s in a book”. As Brian Tracy said about my book, “unlock the secrets inside and let it change your life.”

What’s next for you?

“Side Hustle & Flow” audiobook and paperback out in Jan, but lots of radio shows on 88.5FM The Socal Sound weekly Deeper Grooves on Fridays at 10pm PT, and working on a new soul album, and a jazz project so very excited to go back in the studio and put out more content.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from this project?

Do it until Death. As the Sequence sang ” Don’t you give up, keep goin’…” If I can do it, you can do it too! I believe in you! Everyday hustle!

There you have it! You can listen to Cliff’s music on all platforms and check out his book “Side Hustle & Flow” on amazon.com.
