Sabrina Carpenter Steps Into the Spotlight at the 2026 Grammys

With Taylor Swift officially out of the picture, the 2026 Grammy Awards are turning their focus to momentum artists shaping the current pop landscape — and leading that charge is Sabrina Carpenter.

Carpenter is the first confirmed performer for music’s biggest night, a move Grammy executives say was entirely intentional. According to executive producer Ben Winston, the show is rolling out performers one by one in the weeks leading up to the ceremony, airing February 1.

“The plan is to roll out a new artist every day up until the show, like a Christmas advent calendar,” Winston explained. “We think it will build excitement.”

A Big Year, A Bigger Moment

Carpenter enters the 2026 Grammys with serious momentum. She’s nominated for six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for Man’s Best Friend, cementing her transition from pop breakout to full-fledged awards-season contender.

Her return also follows a standout moment at the 2025 Grammys, where she made her performance debut with “Please Please Please” and “Espresso.” That appearance, Winston revealed, played a crucial role in reshaping the tone of last year’s show.

Turning the Tide in 2025

The 2025 ceremony opened under somber circumstances following devastating Los Angeles wildfires, and the pressure on the first performer was unusually high.

“We were relying on Sabrina to turn the tide and go, ‘Okay, now we can have fun,’” Winston said. “That’s a really tough thing to ask that first performer to be able to do, but nothing seems to phase her.”

According to Winston, the energy Carpenter brought to the stage set the tone for the rest of the night — shifting the ceremony from reflective to celebratory.

“The joy she brought allowed for the rest of the show to feel like a celebration and not like a night of fundraising for charity,” he added. “So yes, she’s back. She’s got a massive performance planned.”

What to Expect on Grammy Night

As the Recording Academy slowly unveils performers ahead of February 1, the strategy is clear: spotlight artists who are actively shaping the current musical moment rather than leaning on surprise legacy appearances.

With Carpenter opening the rollout, the 2026 Grammys are signaling a show driven by current success, cultural momentum, and pop confidence.

And while some fans may still be hoping for a Taylor Swift cameo, the spotlight this year belongs squarely to Sabrina Carpenter — and all signs point to a performance designed to remind audiences exactly why.
