Jessica Andrews Reemerges With Surprise Duet, Reminding Fans Why “Who I Am” Still Hits Home

Jessica Andrews was only 15 when she signed her first record deal. By 17, she had released a song that would define her career — and linger in the hearts of country fans long after she chose to step away from the spotlight.

That song, “Who I Am,” topped the country charts in 2001 and served as the title track to her second studio album. A third album, Now, followed in 2003, and then Andrews quietly pulled back from the industry. Aside from a few scattered singles, she has largely stayed out of public view for more than two decades — intentionally.

There was brief confusion last year when music appeared online under her name, but it was later revealed to be an impostor. For fans who had wondered what became of her, the moment felt unsettling and disappointing.

Then, this week, something real — and joyful — happened.

Andrews resurfaced in a video shared by fellow singer Jessie James Decker. Sitting together in a stairwell, the two traded verses while singing a stripped-down, heartfelt version of “Who I Am.” The clip quickly struck a nostalgic nerve.

“Who remembers this one?” Decker wrote in the caption. “One of the biggest country songs of our childhood! I’ve known Jess for many years and I’m lucky to call her a friend. Such a sweet soul and incredible vocalist.”

Fans flooded the comments with emotion and memories.

“Oh wow, used to love Jessica. So glad to see she’s doing well!!! Y’all sound great!” one person wrote.
“I was obsessed with this song!!! I can’t believe you’re doing it together here, love love love!!!” said another.
“Haven’t heard this song in like 20 years!! Loved it so much,” added one fan.
“This made my middle school girl heart so happy,” another commented.

While there’s no word yet on whether Andrews plans to release new music, the reaction made one thing clear: her impact never disappeared. “Who I Am” not only went No. 1 on the country charts but also crossed over to reach No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100, according to Parade.

Now 42, Andrews is married to singer, producer, and video director Marcel Chagon, and she continues to keep her personal life largely private. But for a few minutes in a stairwell, she reminded longtime fans exactly who she is — and why they never forgot her.
