Jay-Z Responds to Heinous Assault Allegations
Music icons Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Sean “Diddy” Combs are facing explosive allegations in a newly amended civil lawsuit filed on Sunday. The lawsuit accuses both men of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at an after-party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. The complaint also claims another unnamed celebrity witnessed the assault and did not intervene.
The lawsuit, which originally referred to Jay-Z as “Celebrity A,” asserts that a limousine driver noticed the minor and invited her to the after-party, where the alleged assaults occurred. Despite previous lawsuits being dismissed due to plaintiffs’ anonymity, the judge in this case ruled that the victim—13 years old at the time—has a valid reason to remain anonymous.
Jay-Z Denies Claims, Accuses Attorney of Extortion
Jay-Z vehemently denied the allegations, calling them an attempt at extortion. In a statement, he accused the plaintiff’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, of sending a “blackmail attempt” disguised as a demand letter.
“What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle. No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion. So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!”
Jay-Z questioned why the case was filed as a civil lawsuit rather than a criminal one:
“Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?”
He also expressed concern for his family, noting the impact this case could have on his children:
“My only heartbreak is for my family. My wife and I will have to sit our children down… and explain the cruelty and greed of people.”
Buzbee Stands Firm, Diddy’s Team Calls Claims a Publicity Stunt
Attorney Tony Buzbee maintained his stance, stating, “The pleading speaks for itself.” On Instagram, he added:
“People will see through this effort to discredit me and my clients and the truth will be revealed… Sunlight is the best disinfectant.”
Diddy’s legal team dismissed the lawsuit as a manipulative attempt for publicity and money:
“This amended complaint… exposes [Buzbee’s] barrage of lawsuits against Mr. Combs for what they are: shameless publicity stunts… Mr. Combs never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone.”
