Liam Payne, former One Direction star, has died in Argentina, multiple sources report.
La Nacion, a prominent Argentine newspaper, first broke the news, revealing that the 31-year-old singer fell from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires. Various media has confirmed the incident, citing local law enforcement.
According to the Associated Press, Alberto Crescenti, head of the state emergency medical service, stated that Payne was found lifeless in the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel. However, it remains unclear whether the singer fell or jumped. Sources say that several witnesses were present at the scene.
Payne was last seen in Argentina just days before, attending a concert to support his former bandmate Niall Horan. He rose to stardom in 2010 after joining the group One Direction on the U.K.’s The X Factor. The iconic boyband, which also featured Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Horan, disbanded in 2015.
Payne is survived by his 7-year-old son, whom he shares with singer Cheryl Cole.
