Fans in Uproar After Tory Lanez Found Guilty – Petition Started
On December 23rd, 2022, Tory Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. After an intense trial, Lanez has been sentenced to two years of formal probation and 240 days of community labor. He is also required to attend counseling and pay restitution for damages incurred during the shooting.
Lanez must also refrain from owning any firearms for the duration of his probation, as well as avoid contacting Megan Thee Stallion directly or indirectly. Additionally, he must adhere to a curfew between the hours of 9pm and 6am.
He is facing up to 22 years in jail and awaiting final sentencing.
A jury deliberated for nearly four hours before returning a guilty verdict on one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The rapper may serve up to 22 years in prison.
As part of the proceedings, a videotaped conversation between Lanez and Megan was played in court, in which the rapper apologized for shooting her. During the altercation, the rapper fired multiple shots at Megan, according to the arresting officer and friends of the singer.
Lanez’s defense team argued that Lanez fired only because Megan’s friend threatened him. However, the jury rejected the defense and found Lanez guilty of all three charges.
Over the weekend Tory’s family, friends, and fans have begun to sign a petition that has gained over 20,000 signatures. They are considering Tory a sacrificial lamb of sorts to do a solid for African American women. They are attacking the jury calling them “irresponsible” and claiming the decision to find him guilty on all three counts was rushed.
The petition reads ““Was this case taken because of a political pressure to fake protect black women? African-Americans went along with hashtags that didn’t protect anyone & instead caused division between black women and black men.”
