Demi Lovato has never been shy to let the world in on her personal battles while upholding a music career in superstardom. Substance abuse has been a challenge for her on and off again, affecting her mental health and even struggling with bipolar disorder. Through her journey, the superstar has released three documentaries – including 2012’s Demi Lovato: Stay Strong and 2017’s Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated—covering her struggles with mental health and substance abuse.
While promoting her new studio album “Holy Fvck”, the singer made it clear that they was done putting their life story on screen.
“Honestly, I’m really sick of watching myself, and I think other people probably are too,” Demi told Alternative Press in an interview published Aug. 22. “And if they aren’t, then they can watch my music videos.”
More and more artists, actors, and multiple celebrities in the entertainment industry are coming forward to bring to light their mental health issues. This lets fans know this is normal and they are not alone. Awareness is the first step. Celebrities having this kind of positive influence can make a difference.
It is understandable why Demi is exhausted of the cycles which take place in her life displayed for everyone to see. While Demi said she used the documentaries to help explain what she was going through at certain periods in her life, the Disney Channel alum admits she may have jumped the gun in getting to a point of reflection.
“I wish I would have waited until I had my shit figured out more because now it’s cemented,” Demi shared to Alternative Press. “Sobriety is what works for me and nothing else.”
Is Demi finally ready to keep the past in the past? The beloved actress and singer has so many fans across the world rooting for her.
