Bebe Rexha recently provided an update to her fans regarding her injuries after being struck by a fan’s phone during a concert. Last Sunday (18th June) at The Rooftop at Pier 17, a 27-year-old male has been charged with assault after the incident.
The singer, who is actually known as Bleta Rexha, posted two selfies to her Instagram with a black eye and medical tape over her left eyebrow, simply captioning the post with “I’m good”. As reported by her mother Bukurije Rexha, Rexha received three stitches as a result of the incident.
In a fan-captured video that circulated social media, the 33-year-old can be seen being hit by the phone while walking towards the front of the stage, then dropping to her knees with crew members coming to her aid.
Concertgoers were clearly concerned and wrote comments such as “Absolutely great show ruined by a fan throwing their phone at @BebeRexha hopefully she is OK after that”, and “This is Bebe Rexha being rushed out of the concert venue here in NYC after someone threw a f***ing phone and hit her face as she was leaving the stage.”
This is the latest incident in a string of artists being injured by objects while performing. Just last year, Harry Styles fans faced backlash when he was struck in the eye by a Skittles sweet while onstage, with the “As It Was” singer then being hit in the crotch by a water bottle a month later. Such events are undoubtedly unfortunate and our hearts go out to the affected performers.
